Retiree from Raeford collects Powerball win of $2M

Dorothy Myers who lives in Raeford NC asked her grandson to pinch her after she checked her lottery ticket on the night of July 6, 2015.

She matched all five white balls in the Independence drawings; the Powerball ticket cost her $3 but she won $2m reported the North Carolina Education Lottery officials.

“I didn’t believe it when I recognized I had won,” Dorothy said on Tuesday. My grandson and I were so elated, I couldn’t sleep because I was overjoyed and he said it was the most magnificent day in his life.

While on a trip in Roxboro attending a family reunion for the 4th of July my husband and Mr. & Mrs. Myers bought the winning ticket. Mr. Myers bought the ticket from O’Neil’s Quick Stop, South Morgan Street; he purchased his wife’s regular six numbers. Her mother’s birthday for the Powerball and the first five numbers consist of four sisters birthdays along with her own. She has played Powerball since it has been introduced in NC.

After taxes Dorothy Myers walked away with $1,385,000. She plans to purchase an RV for her husband, go to Paris and put aside funds for her grandsons’ college tuition.
